BIS teaches kids about GIS technology
A local elementary school in the Keller Texas ISD asked Aaron Kreag, GIS Director if we would volunteer and talk to 150 third grade students about Geographic Information Systems and web mapping technology. Of course we accepted! In preparation for the day BIS created an Interactive Online Web Mapping application that was specific to the geographic area of the school and grade level. Some of the local teachers volunteered their home and personal information so we could map their details. The kids were given an opportunity to edit spatial data and attributes in real time, talk about coordinate systems, GPS, geometry, thematic maps, the GIS career field, and examine high resolution aerial photography. It was a really neat day.
