Aransas County Appraisal District
About Aransas County, Texas
Aransas County is located on the south east coast of the state and has a population of approximately 25,000. The county was formed in 1871 from Refugio County and organized in 1872. It was named for the Rio Nuestra Senora de Aranzazu, an early Spanish outpost. The county’s territory totals 528 square miles, of which 252 consist of land and the remaining 276 are water.
The county seat is the city of Rockport with a population of around 10,000. Rockport was originally founded in 1870 as a cattle, packing and shipping port and is adjacent to the town of Fulton, which has a population of around 1,500. Fulton pre-dates Rockport as it was founded in 1866.
