Atascosa County is a located in the mid-south of the state and has an estimated population approaching 50,000. The county was formed in 1856 from Bexar County and is named after the Atascosa River. The county consists of 1,220 square miles of land and 2 square miles of water. The county has experienced strong population growth over the past half century and the county seat is Jourdanton.
Jourdanton dates back to 1909 and was named after founder, Jourdan Campbell. Jourdanton’s population is approximately 4,000. The largest city in Atascosa is Pleasanton, which neighbors Jourdanton on the north east and has a population of around 9,000.
