About Austin County, Texas
Austin County is located in the mid-eastern part of Texas some 110 miles from the city of Austin. It has a population approaching 30,000 spread across 656 square miles of territory, of which 647 consist of land and the balance consists of water. The county was named after Stephen F. Austin, known as the “Father of Texas” because he led the second colonization of the state by settling 300 families in the region in 1825. It was founded in 1837.
The county seat is Bellville, with a population a little way north of 4,000. The largest city in the county is Sealy, population approaching 6,500.
