About Bastrop County, Texas
Bastrop County is located in the western side of central Texas and has a population numbering over an estimated 78,000. The county was created in 1834 as part of Mexico, but then reorganized as a Texan county in 1837. The county consists of 896 square miles and a little over 7 of these consists of water. Bastrop County suffered from Texas’ most devastating forest fire in late 2011, which destroyed more than 1,600 homes and burned over four million trees.
The county seat is Bastrop, called the Most Historic Small Town in Texas and located in the centre of the county. Bastrop is notable as a number of movies were filmed, at least partially, in the town including the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Courage Under Fire.
