About Hays County, Texas
Hays County is located on the Edwards Plateau. As of 2013 the population was climbing well over 170,000. The county was named after John Coffee Hays, a former Texas Ranger. The country is a part of the original trail of the El Camino Real de los Tejas. Other historic sites include the Hays County courthouse which is the fourth built for the county since 1848.
Hays County is home to Texas State University, the fourth largest in Texas. Their newly renovated Bobcat stadium now boasts a capacity of 30,000. Local tourist attractions include Wonder World Park and Hamilton Pool Preserve. Wonder World gives visitors a guided tour of caves along the Balcones Fault Line. It is known as the first show cave in Texas. Hamilton Pool Preserve is a popular, natural pool that was formed when part of an underground river collapsed thousands of years ago. The beauty of the limestone and waterfalls brings people from all over to visit.
