Hunt County is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas metropolitan statistical area. The county seat is Greenville. As of 2013, Hunt County had a population of 87,000.
The county was named after Memucan Hunt, Jr. He was the first Republic of Texas Minister to the United States and secretary of the Texas Navy.
Hunt County is the home to Texas A&M University –Commerce which is the second largest in the Texas A&M University System. It is also home to many historical locations like the Katy Depot, the Hunt County courthouse and, in honor of the most decorated American combat soldier of World War II, the Audie Murphy Museum.
