About Kendall County, Texas
Kendall Country has a population of over 33,000 across 662 square miles of land. The county, which is due south of the geographic centre of Texas, was founded in 1862 and named after George Wilkins Kendall, the war correspondent and pioneer Texas sheepman, considered by many to be “the father of the Texas sheep business.” The county seat, Boerne, has a population approaching 11,000. Boerne is notable for having the second oldest limestone courthouse in Texas, which was built in 1870 and stands opposite the current courthouse (which was constructed in 1998). The county also saw one of the first polo matches in the United States, played by retired British army officers.
The second largest city in the county is Fair Oaks Ranch, although part only of the city is located in Kendall County. Fair Oaks Ranch is considered to be the richest district of San Antonio neighborhood. In 2006, Progressive Farmer rated Kendall County as the fifth best place to live in rural America.
