Lee Central Appraisal District
About Lee County, Texas
Lee County, named for Robert E. Lee, the commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, was founded in 1874. The population in 2013 was just over 16,000.
There is a lot of history to take in when you visit Lee County. The town of Giddings is home to three historic depots. The state named Giddings the “Depot Capital of Texas.” Still standing after 112 years, beautiful and historic Lee County Courthouse is definitely a sight to see. With annual chili cook-offs in Lexington, the CPRA rodeo in Giddings and learning the history of putting the dime in the box at Brown’s Mill in Dime Box there is always something to do in Lee County.
