About Liberty County, Texas
In 1837 Liberty County was named based on the Spanish municipality, Libertad. The county seat, the city of Liberty, is the third oldest city in the state of Texas. Sam Houston and William B. Travis both practiced law in Liberty County. As of 2013 the population was just under 80,000.
Liberty County has plenty to do and see. The Jean and Price Daniel home was patterned after the governor’s mansion in Austin. While in Liberty County you can also visit the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge. One of the main attractions in Liberty is one of the first exact replicas of the Liberty Bell that is in Philadelphia. The Bell was dedicated by the late John Wayne and is on display at the Humphreys Cultural Center.
