About Parmer County, Texas
Parmer County is located in the Texas Panhandle and has a population just north of 10,000 across 885 square miles (although just over 4 of these consist of water). The county was created in 1876 and organized in 1907, named after Martin Parmer, one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence and an early judge. The county is one of ten prohibition, or dry, counties in Texas.
The county seat is Farwell, which has a population of approximately 1,400 and traces its origins back to the XIT Ranch until it was closed in the 1940s.
