About Rockwall County, Texas
Out of the 254 counties in Texas, Rockwall is the smallest. The county measures 147 square miles with 22 miles of this being water. The county seat is the city of Rockwall; both it and the county were named for a rock formation that was found when a few farmers were digging for a well. This wall-like formation ran underground throughout the county.
Despite its small size the county’s population hit 85,000 in 2013 and is still among of the fastest growing counties in the country. The city of Rockwall was honored for celebrating its heritage and history by being named a “Preserve America Community” by the White House. The local museum, which houses a variety of items dating back to the 1840’s, is believed to be the first residential structure in Rockwall County.
