Runnels County is located close to the geographical center of Texas and in 2010, it had a population of 10,501 spread over 1,057 square miles. Runnels County was created in 1858 and organized in 1880, named after Hiram G Runnels, a Texas State legislator. The County Seat is Ballinger, where approximately one third of the county live. Both the oil and ranching businesses have been important to Runnels County.
