About Trinity County, Texas
Trinity County is named after the Trinity River and has a population a little over 14,000 spread over 714 square miles of territory. Of these, 20 consist of water. The county was founded in 1850 and the seat is Groveton, a small city of approximately 1,100 population. It is located in the western half of the state.
The largest city in Trinity County is Trinity, population approaching 3,000 and with the motto “You’ll never want to leave!” Trinity was formerly known as Trinity Station, then Trinity City and is notable for the Old Red Schoolhouse, completed in 1915 and saved from demolition in the 1990s.
