About Wilson County, Texas
Wilson County has a population of approximately 43,000 citizens spread over 808 square miles, although 4 of these consist of water. The county is named after James Charles Wilson and the county seat is Floresville. The county was founded in 1860 and the original county seat was Sutherland Springs, but this changed to Floresville following the Civil War.
Floresville is named to honor the Flores de Abrego family. Don Francisco Flores de Abrego was an early settler of the area and his ranch was six miles to the northwest of the present city. The city is notable for the 1884 courthouse, which was designed by Alfred Giles.
